Where's the Stimulus Money being spent? We can tell you
In February 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), commonly referred to as the “Stimulus Package” or “Recovery Act,” was signed into law. Since then, this unprecedented allocation of federal dollars has slowly but surely been making its way from the Beltway to the states and finally to projects at the local level. The total dollar amount of the Recovery Act is well-known: $787 billion. But who knows how much of that has actually been spent, where, and on what? We do.
Onvia tracks government spending from the earliest stages of a procurement to the contract award, so we know which contractors have been awarded ARRA-related projects and how much they’re being paid.
To leverage these data to the benefit of the American businesses and taxpayers, Onvia developed Recovery.org, which brings unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability to recovery spending. The interactive map on the Recovery.org homepage displays the total number of projects that have been awarded in each state and their aggregate value, updated continuously as awards are made.
And to ensure that every business, regardless of size, has equal access to the projects associated with the recovery efforts, the site provides early notices of projects, RFPs, bid documents, amendments to these documents, and contract award information about contractor and subcontractor recipients of Recovery funds, as close to real-time as is possible. Business owners need this information in order to actually win Recovery-funded contracts and thereby hire or retain employees to perform on the contract.
It’s our mission to keep taxpayers informed about the flow of recovery funds, especially those dollars that may impact your family, friends, and community. Recovery.org will help you track these funds to see how and where recovery dollars are spent, and it allows you to vote if a project is worthwhile or wasteful and to post your comments.
