There’s nothing like receiving a Christmas present that was exactly the thing that you wanted. It could be the latest high-tech smartphone. Or that jacket you’ve had your eye on. Or maybe a government contract award that will give your business the extra margin of sales revenue it really needs.

Many government contracting opportunities are tied to the holidays. Christmas offers opportunities for companies to provide products and services that help make the season festive and special, like bright lights to illuminate the town square, or the management and operation of a civic holiday-themed event.

We found five examples of Christmas-themed government bids, RFPs and awards from the last several months, pulled from Onvia’s database covering the entire business-to-government (B2G) marketplace, that would make a nice gift under the tree of any company involved in public sector sales.

2

Holiday Ice Rink

The Edmond City Council in Oklahoma planned to approve of a contract agreement with Ice Challenge, Inc. to provide a holiday outdoor ice rink in the city’s Mitch Park.

3

30-Foot Christmas Tree

In Texas, the Department of the Air Force, Air Education and Training Command released an RFQ for a 30-foot-tall artificial Christmas tree, pre-wired with “at least 16,000 white LED lights.”

4

Civic Christmas Event

Several months ago the City of Talladega, Alabama, approved a $150,000 contract with Telegraph Creative for brand and design work on the city’s Christmas on the Square event.

5

Holiday Lights

The City of Orlando made an agreement with Holiday Lightscapes, Inc. for the installation and removal of holiday lights around Lake Eola, in the heart of downtown Orlando.

These awards, bids and RFPs are just a small sampling of the types of government contract opportunities that open up around Christmas. Some of these are available immediately before the holiday season begins, while others require proactive planning to get out ahead of the bid.
