On August 22 in Seattle, Onvia launched Onvia On Tour, our series of events in cities across America designed to help business professionals accelerate their sales to the public sector.
The Seattle event brought together sales, marketing and business development leaders in a comfortable atmosphere for an afternoon of networking and discussing strategies for doing business with the government.
In case you missed it, we captured some of the highlights from our event in Seattle, posted on social media using the hashtag #OnviaOnTour.
Scott Lester, the Marketing and Business Development Director for FCS Group, kicked the event off by presenting his strategies for winning more, larger government contracting leads.
FCS Group has been able to gain new clients and expand into new territories by leveraging Onvia’s sales intelligence. Lester spoke about how his company was able to develop strategic and long-lasting relationships with government agencies, and explained how other businesses can follow that example.
Attendees then were treated to an in-depth discussion about the public sector market, featuring a panel of government procurement experts. The panel included Danielle Hinz, Chief Procurement Officer, King County Finance & Business Operations Division; Ralph Graves, Senior Director of Capital Development at the Port of Seattle; and was moderated by Ben Vaught, Director of Onvia for Government.
The panelists provided advice to small, midsize and women- and minority-owned businesses that are selling to the government. It was fascinating to hear how the civic responsibility that falls on government procurement professionals leads to the creation of public sector business opportunities.

Next, Onvia Market Analyst Paul Irby then presented data and research on growth trends, drivers and hotspots in the business-to-government marketplace, drawing from the groundbreaking market research that Onvia regularly produces. One key finding was that 60% of vendors expect to grow their sales to state, local or education agencies faster than to federal government agencies.
Onvia CEO Russ Mann then demonstrated how proactive businesses can go beyond the bid to succeed in government contracting. His talk was followed by a demonstration of Onvia 8, the sales intelligence platform enabling businesses to act quickly on active bids and plan strategically for upcoming opportunities.
